National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS)
Overview
Rise and Shine have been supporting National Deaf Children’s Society since 2014. Rise and Shine provide childcare services, allowing parents to participate in activities and events whilst their children (deaf and hearing) are cared for. The aim is to allow parents to participate in activities or events while their children are taken care of.
NDCS Background
National Deaf Children’s Society is the only charity dedicated to breaking down barriers for deaf children and young people. The organization provides a range of support for deaf children, young people and families from diagnosis until independence, including those from Black and Minority Ethnic communities.
Problem faced
Families wishing to attend NDCS events can find it difficult to access childcare with an understanding of childhood deafness. For families attending a course over a number of weeks, or for families with more than one child, the costs of childcare can quickly accumulate, making it challenging for families to access training and support which can help their deaf child and their family.
National Deaf Children’s Society hold a variety of events in different locations, requiring childcare which is flexible, reliable, and above all, sensitive to the needs of deaf children.
How do we help them
Rise & Shine provides mobile creche services at short-term to NDCS events in and around Tayside area. The flexibility of the service allows NDCS to arrange events according to the needs of participants.
Rise & Shine provides childcare for deaf children and siblings whilst their parents and carers attend a course or event. We ensure that we provide the highest standard of care so parents can relax, knowing that their children are in a safe, enjoyable environment. Having childcare facilities onsite gives parents the peace of mind that their children are close by.
Rise & Shine have provided more than 100 hours of creche service to National Deaf Children’s Society, supporting children aged 2-12 years.
Activities provided for children
We provide a range of age appropriate games, play materials and activities to ensure all children are happy and entertained. We also provide healthy snacks whenever it is required.
What parents have to say
Parents have consistently rated childcare provision at NDCS as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’, and appreciate the care and attention shown to each child attending a creche.
