Looking for childcare in Dundee? Find out what the staff and children get up to in a typical day at our Crèche at the Dundee International Women’s Centre.
Here is a snapshot of just one day out of many:
Setting up for the day ahead
It’s 9 am and Sabina, Javairia and Amina (Childcare Practitioners) arrive at the crèche ready for the busy day ahead.
A risk assessment is completed and the weekly healthy snacks are put away.
The parents start arriving to drop off their children. Sabina stays at the reception desk and makes sure the children are signed in and takes a note of any special requests from the parents.
Having fun and learning new things
The children have free play and enjoy playing with all the different toys – the trampoline is very popular and already has a queue!
The children have been learning about the Caterpillar and Butterfly cycle, and today’s activity will be Butterfly pictures.
Amina gets the art table ready and the children excitedly sit down wearing plastic overalls. The new girl wants to join and sits down next to a friend she has made.
They learn how the patterns on Butterfly wings are symmetrical and use paints, stencils, and sponges to create beautiful Butterfly pictures.
Javairia prepares snacks while Amina takes the children to wash up.
As the children sit together and eat their snacks, Sabina and Amina tidy up the toys and get ready for story time.
After snacks, the children gather in the story corner and have fun listening to ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ book.
It’s midday now and the parents come to take the children out for lunch.
The crèche staff get together and enjoy Javairia’s tasty chicken kebabs and salad for lunch!
Getting some rest and then outside to play
The children return and a couple of them settle down for a nap. The rest are entertained with the many toys and games.
After a while, the children go out to the playpark to water their flower pots. A couple of weeks ago they planted some seeds and are excited to see them starting to grow.
It’s a beautiful day and the children enjoy playing outside.
They have some water and fruit before they return to the crèche for song time.
Very soon its 3 pm and everyone gets ready to go home.
